Žan Vipotnik | To score a goal like that was an amazing moment
Žan Vipotnik described his stunning strike in Swansea City’s win over Derby County as “an amazing moment”, but the Slovenian insists he won’t be getting carried away.
Vipotnik scored his third goal in Swansea colours with just 108 seconds on the clock at Pride Park.
After good build-up, the striker received a pass from Myles Peart-Harris on the edge of the penalty area and quickly got the ball out of his feet with a good first touch.
His second saw him dispatch a fizzing, rising drive into the top corner of the net to get the Swans off to a perfect start.
Ronald doubled the advantage 12 minutes later, but the visitors had to defend stoutly to secure all three points after Nathaniel Mandez-Laing had pulled one back from the penalty spot for the hosts.
“It was one fast action,” said Vipotnik of his goal.
“I did not expect that, but I did a good first touch and it meant I could turn and shoot with my left foot.
“I like to be able to use both my feet, and it was an amazing moment.
“It’s my job to score goals and I am happy I was able to help the team. It can give me a lot of confidence, goals give me confidence and I want to use that in the next games.”
The forward also praised the resolve of his teammates in seeing out the win on the back of agonising late defeats to Burnley and Leeds United.
“It was a very difficult game, but I am happy for the team to get this win,” he added.
“I feel like we have played a very good first half, the second half we dropped off a bit but this can happen in games.
“We showed both sides of the game, and I think I can help the team when we have to deal with pressure and I need to be in a good position so my teammates can play to me and I can hold play up for us.
“I need to do this better but overall this win is important because we had lost last couple of games in the last minutes, so this can give us confidence.”
