Ysgol Y Strade to represent Swansea City at Utilita Girls Cup
Ysgol Y Strade will represent Swansea City in the Utilita Girls Cup 2023-24 tournament after winning the Swansea City AFC Foundation’s local tournament.
More than 100 girls from schools across our community participated in the under-13s’ tournament at Coleg Sir Gar, with Ysgol Y Strade coming out on top with a win in the final.
The school will now represent the Swans in the area finals and will face sides representing Bristol City, Bristol Rovers, Cardiff City, Exeter City, Forest Green Rovers, Newport County, Plymouth Argyle, Portsmouth and Southampton for a place in the regional final.
The Utilita Girls Cup is part of the EFL Trust's nationwide tournament, with the Grand Final set to be played at Wembley in March.
Foundation education co-ordinator Katy Hosford - who is also Swansea City Women's captain - was delighted to see so many young girls getting involved in the tournament and praised the efforts of Ysgol Y Strade as they prepare to represent the Swans in the next stage of the competition.
“It’s great to have so many young girls here who are enjoying their football and really giving their all,” said Hosford.
“Every year we run this tournament we see more and more participants, so to have over 100 girls involved is brilliant.
“Congratulations to Ysgol Y Strade, I know they will be really excited for the next round and it’s great for them to be able to represent the club in the tournament.”
