Wales call-ups for academy youngsters

21 Swansea City academy players have been called up to represent Wales during the current international break. 

Thomas Woodward, who scored 30 goals in all competitions last term, earns his first-ever international selection after being named in Chris Gunter's under-19s' squad. 

 

Wales Under-21s

Coach Matty Jones named Josh Thomas, Cameron Congreve, Joel Cotterill and Evan Watts in his squad for Wales Under-21s' penultimate game of their Euro 2025 qualifying campaign against Iceland, which takes place at Víkingsvöllur on Tuesday, September 10 (5.30pm KO).

Wales sit second in Group I after earning three wins and two draws so far, with their only defeat coming against top seeds and current group leaders Denmark.

 

Wales Under-19s

Chris Gunter has included Kit Margetson, Woodward and Jacob Cook in his first under-19s' squad as new head coach.

Wales face Turkmenistan on Saturday, September 7 and Azerbaijan on Monday, September 9. Both matches take place in Pinatar and will get under way at 11am.

The friendlies will aid preparations for Wales' European Championship qualifying round fixtures in November.

 

Wales Under-18s

Brogan Popham and Iestyn Jones have been selected in Wales Under-18s' squad ahead of the Jezek Cup in the Czech Republic..

The camp will be the squad’s first since they represented Wales in the European Under-17 Championship finals in Cyprus in May. 

Wales face three games in five days, starting against the hosts on Wednesday, September 4 (5pm).

They then take on Slovakia two days later on Friday, September 6 (5pm), before concluding the tournament on Sunday, September 8 (11am) against Türkiye.

Wales Under-17s

Carter Heywood and Milo Robinson have been named in Wayne Hatswell's under-17s' squad for their upcoming friendly double-header in Spain.

The first game of the window against Gibraltar gets under way at 7pm on Wednesday September 4, before the second fixture against Qatar takes place two days later on Friday, September 6 at 4pm.

The games will help Wales prepare for their European Championship qualifying-round fixtures in November.

 

Wales Under-16s and Under-15s

Theo Harrington, Rio Hassan, Nioll Siwela, Bobby Lewis, and Alffi Hughes were all selected to take park in Wales Under-15s' training camp in Cardiff. All five players were recently part of the 2024 Cymru Cup.

For the older age-group, Alex Godfrey, Alfie Jones, Elis Thomas, Sol Baker and Harvey Gray were also selected to take part in Wales Under-16s' training camp in Cardiff in preparations for the 2024 Victory Shield.
