Tom Carroll buzzing after Barnsley start
Tom Carroll was “buzzing” after making his first league start in a year in Swansea City’s draw with Barnsley.
The midfielder has had a terrible time with injuries over the last 12 months but, having recovered from hip surgery, he is back in the fold and pushing for regular action.
His start at Oakwell was his first since last October’s win over Blackburn, and he produced some typically neat and incisive play in midfield as he got 90 minutes under his belt.
And he hopes there is more to come in the weeks ahead.
“It’s been a long time coming for me. I’ve really missed it so it was really nice to be back out there,” he said.
“When I found out I would be starting, I was buzzing. It was great to get on the ball.
“I’ve been working hard. I’ve spoken to the gaffer to see what he wants from me.
“Hopefully, I’ve been able do that in training and earn my place in the team on merit. I want to continue that now and play more and more games.”
Carroll and company can now look forward to back-to-back home games against Brentford and Cardiff at the Liberty.
And, with the top of the Championship table so congested, he knows how important it would be if the Swans can grab maximum points from those fixtures.
“We now have two home games in a row. Hopefully, we can pick up six points and, if we do, we’ll be right back up there,” he said.
“If we put things together and play well, I think we’ve got a good chance of getting up this year.
“We’ve got a really good team this year and we need to stay in the mix.
“In this league, if you can put a few results together, you can soon climb up the table. We look forward to the opportunity to do that.”
