Gary Stanley and Bob Latchford were on target as the Swans sank FA Cup finalists Manchester City in Division One.
The Swans were cheered on by more than 19,000 at the Vetch with midfielder Stanley giving John Toshack's men the lead with a superb long-range effort before striker Latchford, who scored 12 goals in his first season in South Wales, tapped in the second from Robbie James' cross.
But the Swans only won one of their remaining six games as Toshack's team finished a creditable sixth in their first season in the top-flight.
Swans line-up: D. Davies, D. Hadziabdic, C. Marustik, G. Stanley, R. Kennedy, A. Rajkovic, A. Curtis, R. James, L. James, N. Stevenson, B. Latchford.
