'There's more to come from me'

Connor Roberts believes he has plenty more chapters to write in his Swansea City story after signing a new contract with the club.

Local product Roberts, who came through the club’s academy system, has today penned a fresh agreement which ties him to the Swans until the summer of 2022.

The right-back has enjoyed a remarkable rise since making his first-team debut in January. He is now a regular in Graham Potter’s plans while he is also featuring heavily in Ryan Giggs’ Wales team.

While he was delighted to commit to his home city club, Roberts – who hails from Crynant – believes he has plenty more to offer.

“I’m over the moon to get it done. Now I can concentrate on playing and improving as an individual and as a team,” said Roberts, who has spent time on loan with Yeovil Town, Bristol Rovers and Middlesbrough in recent years.

“Even though I’ve signed this contract there is more to come from me.

“It didn’t really happen for me at Bristol Rovers and Middlesbrough. I didn’t get much of a chance to play.

“But I came back and it’s been a remarkable turnaround playing for Swansea and Wales.

“People can say I have made it, but when I speak to my family and partner I say it’s just the beginning hopefully.

“I’ve had a good few months, but I want to keep playing well, improving and proving I’m good enough and worthy of a place in the team.

“If I want a good, long career here then that’s what I have to do.”

He added: “Everyone wants to play at the top level, so to do that again with Swansea – as a local boy – would be brilliant.

"The next few years give me a chance to stay in the team, continue improving as a player and hopefully, the end goal is to be back in the Premier League by the time my contract is up."
