Team news | Wayne Routledge to miss season opener
Wayne Routledge is set to miss Swansea City’s season opener against Hull, but George Byers and Jay Fulton are in contention to face the Tigers.
Experienced winger Routledge sat out last weekend’s friendly win over Atalanta with a minor knock, and he will not be risked on the opening weekend of the Championship campaign although he was close to being available.
But head coach Steve Cooper confirmed Byers is available, while Jay Fulton has overcome the hip injury that forced him off late on against the Serie A side.
Courtney Baker-Richardson is also fit after recent injury.
New signing Freddie Woodman could make his debut after sealing his loan move from Newcastle.
“Wayne still isn’t quite right,” said Cooper.
“Maybe we could have risked him on a different game, but it is a risk we do not want to take.
“George is fine, he is back - as is Jay - and apart from the longer-term injuries we are good to go.
Cooper also revealed midfielder Tom Carroll is close to being back in full training after seeing much of the last 12 months disrupted by hip problems.
“Tom is close to full training, he is out on the grass,” he added.
“He is nowhere near ready to play after so long out, but he is close to full training so that’s good to see.”
