Tarrelle Whittaker | I have confidence in myself to score more goals
Tarrelle Whittaker is confident he can continue to contribute goals for Swansea City Under-21s this season after his free-kick secured a share of the spoils against Charlton Athletic on Monday.
The young Addicks took the lead shortly before the interval after Dylan Gavin fired home from close range.
But in-form forward Whittaker was on target for the visitors with a fine strike just minutes after the break, as it ended all-square at Princes Park.
The strike took the 19-year-old's tally to nine this season, while he also netted an equaliser in the reverse fixture against the Addicks back in October.
“First of all, I am just happy that I was able to contribute to the team to help us secure the point in the end," said Whittaker.
“A draw is better than a loss, but there were times where we dominated the game and kept the ball in possession, so there is a sense of disappointment to not come away with the three points.
“When I stepped up to take the free-kick, I just visualised myself scoring. I knew I was going to score; I have that confidence within myself, and I know I’m capable of scoring goals like that.
“It’s a new year, and I just want to push on. Hopefully, I can get more opportunities to score more goals in the games I feature in and help the team to win matches.
“The boys really worked hard. Each side had chance after chance and we could have gone behind again, but we didn’t.
“That’s because we stuck together and saw out the game to end with a draw. Again, it’s not what we wanted, but our performance overall was really good."
