Swansea City's Bafetimbi Gomis keen to repay the love
Bafetimbi Gomis has revealed his determination to hit the goal trail in order to repay Swansea City for the "love" shown following his summer switch.
The French striker has quickly settled into his new surroundings - both on and off the pitch - following his transfer from Lyon in July.
Gomis has already shown glimpses of his quality in his five pre-season appearances, with the 29-year-old scoring his first goal in last weekend's 3-1 win at Reading.
And, speaking via a translator, Gomis opened up on life at his new club and how determined he is to score goals, goals goals in return for the warm Welsh welcome he has received from everyone in the city.
"I have settled in very well," Gomis said with a smile. "When I joined the squad in Chicago during the pre-season tour I found a group of players that I perceived from the outside - a group that works well together in a great atmosphere, ambiance and mood.
"They have welcomed me with open arms, which was good, and that helped me integrate into the group easier.
"I am very happy to have joined a club that is family-orientated like Swansea, and I am given lots of love whether it's within the club or by the fans.
"I can't wait to score goals to give back all the love they have shown me."
Gomis will get another opportunity to find the net as the Swans take in their final warm-up fixture this weekend ahead of the start of the Barclays Premier League campaign.
Villarreal are the visitors to the Liberty on Saturday (3pm), and the French international is relishing the prospect of playing at his new home for the first time.
"I can't wait," Gomis added. "Out in America and in our recent friendly matches, a lot of Swansea supporters were at the games and they gave me a beautiful ovation, which I was very happy with.
"I'm really looking forward to getting onto the pitch at the Liberty and seeing the fans. I hope, together, we'll do some beautiful things.
"And, being a forward, I can't wait to score for my new team and fans."
