Swansea City Under-23s Gary Richards International Cup

27th February

Coach Gary Richards wants supporters to get behind Swansea City's youngsters tomorrow night when the Under-23s face German side Hertha Berlin in the Premier League International Cup quarter-final.
The young Swans beat Feyenoord and Chelsea in the group stage of the competition to set up this week's knock-out tie at the Liberty Stadium (7pm), while Hertha finished top of their group with victories over Everton and Reading.
Following the U23s' impressive campaign in the Checkatrade Trophy, which saw them reach the quarter-final before a penalty shoot-out defeat against Coventry City, Richards believes the young Swans can impress once again in cup football.
"Playing Hertha Berlin at the Liberty Stadium is something we are massively looking forward to," he said.

"Knock-out cup football against European teams only adds a new challenge to our season. It tests our players in different ways and only helps their development.
"We have no idea what type of team Hertha will bring, but our performances against Feyenoord and Chelsea were outstanding and if we can repeat that we have a chance to reach the next stage."
Tickets are on sale for tomorrow's cup tie at the Liberty Stadium, with fans encouraged to book ahead of the game.
Over 3,000 fans cheered on the U23s against Coventry last month and Richards would like to see the same amount of support for tomorrow's game.
"The crowd that night were fantastic," he added. "The support we had was appreciated by the players and staff.

"We would like to recreate that atmosphere if we can - the more supporters that come out and cheer us on the better.
"This is another great opportunity for our fans to watch the next generation of Swans players. There is no reason why this group can't challenge in this tournament, but we know we must be at our best against tough opposition."
