Swansea City under-21s West Brom U21s Premier League Division Two

David Adams says there were plenty of positives to take for Swansea City Under-21s, despite a narrow 2-1 defeat at home to West Brom on Monday evening.

The young Swans dominated an action packed first half with good spells after the break and could have taken a well-earned draw in their first Under-21 Premier League Division Two match at the Liberty Stadium had it not been for a late goal.

"Despite the result, I thought the performance was excellent," said Adams 

"We dominated important aspects of the game, we moved the ball and pressed well, we did all the things we wanted to do in terms of our game plan. It is obviously disappointing to lose but we need to look at the bigger picture and take the positives away from a result like this."

Swansea started brightly with Owain Jones and Daniel James both coming close early on. West Brom however took the lead through a superb free-kick, Adil Nabi curling his 20 yard effort into the back of the net. An impressive 17-year-old Daniel James cut inside from the wing to rifle his effort against the post before the U21s equalised through midfielder Ryan Hedges. The Swans continued to test Ross in the West Brom goal (Daniel) James and (Josh) Sheehan both had chances well saved before Stephen Kingsley saw his free-kick cannon off the post in the second half. West Brom snatched a late winner on 87 minutes, Samir Nabi cooly slotting home inside the area after a neat one-two.

"We created a lot of chances and should have been ahead in the second half," Adams continued.

"Our players were superb, I felt sorry for Dan (James) tonight, a number of his chances were very unlucky not to go in but he will keep improving, he is a first year scholar and exposure to these sort of games at an under-21 level will only help him do that.

"A game like this will be a learning tool for our team in category one football this season. Tonight shows we are more than capable of competing against teams in this league and at this level 

"Conceding in the way we did late on is unfortunate but we will take the positives, bounce back and move on to the next game against Brighton."
