Swansea City Under-21s saw their pre-season friendly against Trefelin abandoned with just under 20 minutes to go following a serious injury to one of the home side's players.

The Swans had been leading 7-0 at the time of the abandonment, courtesy of a first-half hat-trick from Iwan Morgan, a brace from Glory Nzingo and further goals from Harry Jones and Liam Smith at Ynys Park.

But the thoughts of all in attendance were primarily for the welfare of the injured player, who suffered a significant leg injury and received immediate treatment from the medical staff in attendance.

Everyone at Swansea City wishes him well and a speedy recovery.

Interim academy manager Ryan Davies said: "It was a horrible injury to see last night and was distressing for everyone involved. Jordan Beech (head of academy physiotherapy) and Andy Jones (academy doctor) did an amazing job.

"The speed in which they acted and the calmness to manage the situation to provide the best possible medical care was excellent. Last night’s situation confirmed to us all how brilliant our medical staff are. We wish the player all the best and hope he makes a speedy recovery."

Earlier in the evening the Swans had taken the lead within 10 minutes when Morgan arrived to tap in from a Mitchell Bates cross.

Morgan went on to double the lead after a fine ball from the right by a trialist, while Jones would soon add a third when he diverted a sweeping corner into the net.

The Swans further extended their lead when Smith was fouled as he raced onto a ball in the box, and Morgan converted the resulting spot-kick to complete his hat-trick.

Further goals from Nzingo and Smith then had the Swans six goals to the good just before the break at Ynys Park.

Nzingo continued his impressive pre-season form, grabbing his second of the evening on the hour mark before the unfortunate end to the evening's proceedings.
