Swansea City under-18s West Ham
28th January
Two second half goals saw Swansea City Under-18s fall to a 3-1 defeat against West Ham in Premier League South at Landore on Saturday.
Causso Darame was instrumental in midfield inside the opening ten minutes as the winger allowed the Swans to break on the counter-attack before Mael Davies' pass released Cameron Berry to have a shot on goal, only for the chance to be saved by Rihards Matrevics in the Hammers' net.
Ross Treacy saved striker Korrey Henry's shot from outside the area as the young Swans took advantage at the back to break behind the defence only for Sean Hanbury's effort to be denied by the legs of Matrevics.
But, West Ham took the lead on 25 minutes as a cross from Joe Powell from the left found Alfie Lewis in the box to slot into the bottom right corner.
Swansea were awarded a penalty just four minutes later as Liam Edwards was fouled in the box. Liam Cullen stepped-up to fire home the equaliser from 12-yards.
And, the home side should have taken the lead minutes later as Edwards took advantage of a loose ball at the back only for West Ham's keeper to deny the effort.
Tracey denied Powell's shot once again before Berry went close for the Swans a minute before the half time whistle.
Swansea pressed in the second half as Darame's vicious shot was denied by a low diving save by Matrevics.
Despite those early chances, it was West Ham who retook the lead five minutes into the restart as striker Korrey Henry found space inside the area to slot home at the near post.
And, the Hammers doubled their lead just after the hour mark as Henry fired home from the penalty spot, following a foul on the striker.
The young Swans looked for a way back into the match but were denied twice by the woodwork as Cullen's chipped shot hit the post before Ben Morgan's header hit the apex of the goal.
Treacy saved Joe Powell's curling effort as Keiran Evans 20-yard drive tested West Ham minutes before the final whistle.
