Swansea City loan watch | March 2021
As we prepare to enter the final stages of the 2020-21 campaign, we take a closer look at how Swansea City’s loan players have fared during their time away from the club.
Winger Jordon Garrick has seen regular game time since heading to Swindon on loan at the same time as Kieron Freeman made the move to the Liberty.
He has already made 10 appearances for the County Ground club, making eight starts, and registering one goal and one assist as Swindon battle to avoid the drop from League One.
Midfielder George Byers, meanwhile, has made seven appearances for Portsmouth since joining in January after an injury-hit first part of the campaign.
Byers started in Pompey’s Football League Trophy defeat to Sunderland at Wembley, but was not involved in Danny Cowley’s first game in charge at the weekend.
Left-back Declan John has made a considerable impact at Bolton, helping Ian Evatt’s side go on an unbeaten run to ignite their promotion hopes in League Two.
The Wales international has scored twice in a dozen appearances for the Trotters, and has yet to finish on the losing side, winning fulsome praise from Wanderers’ boss Evatt in the process.
While Garrick, Byers and John moved in January, Barrie McKay is in the midst of a season-long stint with League One Fleetwood.
The Scot has made 19 appearances so far this term, scoring one goal, although he has not featured since a late substitute outing in the defeat at Plymouth on February 13.
Defender Cameron Evans made his debut for League of Ireland Premier Division side Waterford last Friday, but suffered misfortune as his late own goal gave Drogheda a 1-0 victory.
Evans’ fellow academy products Matthew Blake and Josh Thomas have also seen action early in their spells with Cardiff Met.
The pair have made two Cymru Premier appearances a piece, with their side picking up one point from a possible nine since the resumption of the Welsh domestic season.
