Swansea City Ladies Swindon Town pre-season friendly
20th July
Swansea City Ladies continued their 2016-17 pre-season campaign with a 2-1 victory over FA Premier League South side Swindon Town Ladies at Croft Sports Centre.
The Swans started well with good intensity and an excellent run from Stacey John, forcing Swindon's keeper into action early in the first half.
At the other end, skipper Alicia Powe showed solid defending and Lowri Ridings made a good clearance to keep the score at 0-0.
Shortly before the half hour mark, Swansea were awarded a penalty when Katie Davies was fouled inside the box. Jodie Passmore fired the Swans into the lead from 12 yards.
Swans keeper Gemma Border kept out a Swindon free-kick before the home side levelled in the 41st minute thanks to a close range strike from Georgia Walters.
The Swans reacted to this quickly and could have retaken the lead a minute later only for Sarah Adams header to be cleared off the line before the half time whistle.
The Ladies continued to control the game in the second half, Ria Hughes narrowly missed the woodwork.
The Swans retook the lead on the hour mark when a great cross from Katy Hosford found midfielder Emma Beynon to fire home with a well hit half-volley into the bottom right-hand corner.
Sarah Adams had an opportunity to strengthen the visitors' lead only to see her strike from the edge of the box hit the crossbar.
Some excellent attacking play from Megan Franks and another chance for Lucy Jones in the final minutes of the match which just missed the target showed some promising signs for the Swans for the season ahead.
After the 2-1 victory, Swansea's Lowri Ridings explained "I feel we dominated possession and battled well to get the win. It was a good game to bounce back from our pre-season tour."
