Swansea City Ladies Swindon Town pre-season friendly
2nd August
Swansea City Ladies continued their 2016-17 pre-season campaign with a 3-2 victory over Swindon Town Ladies at Llandarcy Academy of Sport.
The match marked the second time both teams met during this pre-season campaign, with goals from Emma Beynon and Jodie Passmore giving the Swans a 2-1 win in July.
The game started well for the Swans with a cross from Sarah Adams on the right flank hitting the cross bar whilst Stacey John shot at goal went close.
The home side had many opportunities throughout the first half and continued to dominate possession. Substitute, Katie Davies showed some impressive attacking play as her sharp header was stopped by Swindon's keeper.
Emma Beynon had a great chance to give the Swans the lead only for her effort to narrowly miss the target before winger Katy Hosford saw her effort cleared off the line.
The Swans eventually took the lead during first half stoppage time when an excellent cross from Hosford found Beynon on the edge of the box to fire home.
Swansea doubled their lead in the final minute of stoppage time as Hosford scored from close range following an assist from John.
Swindon managed to pull a goal back in the 58th minute when Chyna Collings netted in the bottom left-hand corner.
The Swans reacted quickly with a great strike from Megan Franks cannoning back off the crossbar. Adams managed to get on the end of the rebound to strengthen the Swans' lead.
At the other end, Ffion Ashman made a good save to prevent Swindon from coming back into the game.
Ian Owen's side continued to create chances in the second half, with Jodie Passmore making some superb crosses to help them going forward.
The visitors scored their second in the final minutes of the match, however it was not enough to dampen the home side's spirits as the Swans secured their second pre-season victory against the Robins within a fortnight.
After the match, scorer Emma Beynon said: "We created a lot of chances and we should have finished them, but I think for us to win was good, obviously for pre-season, but we could've won by a lot more.
"We've been working really hard on fitness and it showed in that game, where we were fitter than them. So I think if we carry on working really hard, we will be good to start the season."
