Swansea City Ladies celebrate

Swansea City Ladies will kick off their Genero Adran Premier title defence with a televised game at the Swansea.com Stadium on September 4.

Swans Ladies host last season’s runners-up Cardiff Met in a huge opening day clash, and supporters will be able to back the team at the Swansea.com Stadium.

The match, which gets under way at 5:45pm, will be shown live on S4C, online on S4C Clic and also on Sgorio's Facebook and YouTube pages.

The two sides last met on the final day of last season where they played out a 1-1 draw at Met’s Cyncoed Campus with Swans having been crowned league champions the weekend before.

The Swans came out on top with a 2-1 victory when the two sides met in the league earlier in the campaign, while Met earned a 4-2 shootout win in the Genero Adran Trophy quarter-finals on their way to lifting the trophy.

Alicia Powe, Swansea City Ladies' captain, said: “With the recent success of the Euros, it shows the appetite for the women’s game is growing.

“It’s a huge platform for Welsh women’s football to be televised at the Swansea.com Stadium. The whole squad is excited to be part of this milestone event and we can’t wait to get the season started.”

Sue Butler, S4C sports commissioner, said: "It is a fitting way to start the new Genero Adran Leagues season with a match between two of the best teams in Wales and we are looking forward to showing what should be a fantastic spectacle live on S4C.

"We are proud to continue our support of the league and to play our part in the exciting development of the women’s game in Wales."

Ianthe Mumford, Genero Adran Premier general manager, added: "What better way to mark the start of a new Genero Adran Premier season than to have a match at a top stadium and live on S4C?

"The buzz around women’s football in the last few weeks has been amazing and this is a great chance for people to see the fantastic talent we have on offer in the Welsh domestic game, as two of our leading teams go head-to-head."

Ticket details for this match will be released in due course.
