Swansea City duo named in Wales squad for World Cup
Swansea City’s Joe Allen and Ben Cabango have been named in Wales’ 26-man squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Midfielder Allen, 32, and defender Cabango, 22, were among the names read out by Wales coach Rob Page in Tylorstown live on BBC One on Wednesday evening.
It means the Swans pair will be part of the first Dragons squad to appear at a World Cup finals in 64 years.
Wales have been drawn alongside England, the United States and Iran in Group B.
They will kick off their campaign against the USA on Monday, November 25 (7pm kick-off UK time), before taking on Iran on Friday, November 25 (10am kick-off UK time) and England on Tuesday, November 29 (7pm kick-off UK time).
Swans midfielder Ollie Cooper missed out on selection despite his excellent form so far this season.
For Allen this will be a third appearance at a major tournament, while it will be Cabango’s second after he was included in the Euro 2020 squad.
There are a number of other Swansea academy products in the final squad, with Connor Roberts, Joe Rodon, Ben Davies and Daniel James also included in the final selection.
Swansea City congratulates all current and former players on their selections, and wishes them and the whole Wales squad every success in Qatar.
