Swansea City boss Russell Martin hails "warrior" Ben Cabango
Russell Martin hailed the “warrior” spirit of Ben Cabango after the defender headed in Swansea City’s late winner at Watford.
Cabango has excelled since returning from an ankle ligament injury in August, and he continued his fine form at Vicarage Road.
The 22-year-old’s performances mean he is making a compelling case for inclusion in Wales’ World Cup squad.
But that is all to come and, having threatened on a few occasions to find the net, Cabango opened his account for the season as he met Ryan Manning’s free-kick to head home what proved to be the winner in the eighth minute of 17 minutes of stoppage time.
It was an all-round team performance in Hertfordshire, but head coach Martin had warm words of praise for his centre-half.
"I'm so pleased for him. (Set-piece coach) Andy Parslow has a lot of conversations with him. Ben should have had a goal or two before now," said Martin.
"I don't want to put any pressure on him but he's one of the best centre-halves at this level, in my opinion, with what he does, how far he's come and how much he's improved.
“He really has developed so much. He's a warrior who has started to develop other traits.
“He can really play football, he's really brave and if he can add some goals to it, it'll be even better for us."
