Swansea City boosted by Flynn Downes' return for Peterborough clash
Russell Martin has a full Swansea City squad to choose from for Saturday’s Championship test with Peterborough United as Flynn Downes returns from injury.
The midfielder, one of the Swans’ star performers since his summer switch from Ipswich Town, was replaced at half-time during the 2-1 win over West Brom due to a tight hamstring – an injury that forced him out of last weekend’s defeat at Birmingham City.
He is back amongst the squad after returning to full training, and is available for selection as the Swans look to bounce back to winning ways.
“Everyone is fit,” Martin confirmed. “Flynn is back in the squad. He’s been brilliant since he came in.
“Flynn is improving all the time, he’s a great character and always wants to learn. He has fitted into group perfectly so it’s great to have him back.”
Martin has also seen a number of his squad benefit from a run out with the club’s under-23s team earlier this week.
Steven Benda, Liverpool loanee Rhys Williams, Brandon Cooper, Jay Fulton, Liam Walsh, Yan Dhanda, Morgan Whittaker and Liam Cullen all featured for 90 minutes in a 2-0 win against Watford.
The Swans boss added: “We were trying to give those guys minutes to translate the work they’ve done in training into a game. Even though most of team were first team, only two were over-23 (Fulton and Walsh).
“Everyone showed the right mindset. Their attitude was brilliant. We took a lot from it.
“They controlled the game against a strong Watford Under-23s team. It was a great exercise.
“They came through it in terms of fitness, but in terms of intensity it was perfect.
“They are fit. They are certainly fitter than what they were when we started, so we’re looking forward to pushing on with everyone in the squad.”
