Swansea City to accept Young Carers ID Cards

Swansea City is pleased to announce that it has updated its personal carer policy to include young carers.

The club held initial open discussions with a group of young carers, Swansea City fans, representatives from YMCA Swansea, Level Playing Field, and the club's Disabled Supporters' Association.

Further consultation was held with YMCA Swansea young carer co-ordinators, and the club has now formally adopted the Young Carer ID Card as a valid form of identification, in line with our existing PA policy.

“YMCA Swansea Young Carers Service would like thank Swansea City for acknowledging and recognising the Young Carers ID Card," said Egija Dixon, YMCA Swansea’s young carers co-ordinator.

“It is essential that we identify, recognise and support young carers so they can access opportunities that will enable them to live happy and healthy lives alongside their caring roles. 

“We hope to see more organisations follow the lead of Swansea City in the near future.”

Hayley Ford, Swansea City's head of supporter services, added: “As a club, it is important that we make Swansea City as accessible as possible for the people in our city and wider community.

“Following feedback from supporters, we recognised that our previous policy did not accommodate all types and ages of carers, and it was important for us to understand how we could better adapt our policy to be more reflective of the carers who are doing amazing work within our community.

“We are very grateful to YMCA Swansea for their support in putting this policy together, and to all of the people who attended the initial consultation group in March, which helped get the ball rolling to make this positive step.”

The Young Carer ID Card will be the only accepted form of ID for any carer aged 17 and under, and anyone who is entitled to this card is encouraged to reach out to YMCA Swansea to obtain one.

HOW TO REGISTER AS A CARER:

Supporters are asked to provide the ticket office with documentation supporting their claim for a carer ticket (more information here).

Young carers will also be asked to send a copy of their young carers card to our ticketing team by emailing ticketing@swanseacity.com.
