SwansAid funding helps buy adapted tricycles for disabled children
24th February
A children's therapy centre in Swansea has benefited from a £1,200 cheque courtesy of SwansAid.
The Therapy for Swansea Kids centre at Singleton Hospital received the funding during a visit by Swansea City Community Trust's Linden Jones and Swans club ambassador Lee Trundle.
The centre treats children up to 19 years of age with a range of disabilities including cerebral palsy and developmental coordination disorder.
The money will be used to help buy special adapted tricycles for children receiving treatment.
Kate Greenfield, team leader at the physiotherapy centre, said: "To receive this funding boost from SwansAid is great news.
"To have Lee (Trundle) come down and present us with the cheque has also been a great boost for the children.
"We are going to put the money towards special adapted tricycles for children with disabilities to use.
"At the moment parents have to contribute half the money towards adapted bikes, but this SwansAid funding means families will not have to foot the bill for something that will help their son or daughter continue to develop."
Swans ambassador Trundle added: "To see the good work this money is going to do and to meet the families it affects is brilliant.
"This SwansAid money is going to help a number of children experience what every kid does with riding bikes with friends and families which we take for granted."
SwansAid grant applications are back open until Thursday, April 2, and Greenfield urged other charities and organisations to apply after seeing the Therapy for Swansea Kids centre benefit.
"It is so easy to apply" she said: "We saw SwansAid advertised on the internet, we put the details together and applied. It was very easy and we were delighted when we got selected to receive the money.
"Other charities and organisations should go for it and apply - it is a great opportunity to have some money towards your charity, activities and equipment."
