Swans launch Girls Development Camp
28th July
The next generation of girls footballers could be coming out of Swansea with the launch of the Swansea City Girls Development Soccer Camp this summer.
The two-day event, starting on Monday. August 4 at Ashleigh Road, aims to encourage more girls in the local area to lace up their boots and beat the boys out onto the football pitch.
Girls who sign up will be coached by the Swans' first full-time female coach at the club's Academy, Nia Davies, who is helping the Swans expand its links with womens football in the local area.
Nia said: "One of my main aims is to get girls playing football in a structured fashion, and getting them interested in the game and learning about the club as well.
"We aim to do this through workshops alongside local clubs and soccer camps for girls, like this one in August.
"Hopefully a lot more girls will get involved and, in turn, their mums may come down and watch Swansea City in the future."
Academy Manager Nigel Rees added: "This is a fantastic opportunity for girls in our area to get some top training tips, learn new skills, get involved with football and for girls to realise the sport isn't just open to boys."
The Girls Development Soccer Camp takes place at Ashleigh Road, Swansea, SA3 5AU, on August 4 & 5.
Time: 9am - 2.30pm
Cost: £10 per day
Age: 6-14 years
