Swansea City AFC Foundation has partnered with the FAW to deliver BE.FC girls football sessions.

BE.FC is a new recreational programme that enables teenage girls across Wales to join a community, play football and make friends.

The programme aims to address the common dropout of girls from sports at age 13. Through extensive research and consultation, the FAW has created a programme specifically tailored to the needs of teenage girls.

The Foundation will be delivering weekly sessions at Penyrheol Leisure Centre for girls aged 12 to 16, starting in January 2025.

Katy Hosford, sports and education co-ordinator at Swansea City AFC Foundation, will lead the sessions, and is excited to be supporting the growth of girls football in the local area.

“We’ve seen a massive growth in women’s and girls’ football locally and across the country, so it’s great to offering girls in the local area more opportunities to play football,” said Hosford, who captains the Swansea City Women's team, which has itself recently introduced under-13 and under-15 teams into its pathway.

“We see so many girls drop out of sport in the early teenage years, and they miss out on so many benefits that being involved in sport brings, so it’s really important to give these age groups a session tailored to them.

“It’s great to see the work the FAW have done to understand the needs of this demographic and make sure the sessions really work for them.”
