Head coach Luke Williams hailed a “heroic” performance from Harry Darling, following the defender’s outstanding showing in the draw with West Bromwich Albion.

The centre-half, playing without Ben Cabango alongside him for the first time in a Championship game this season, excelled as the Swans were able to snatch a point thanks to Joe Allen’s late header.

Darling was voted man of the match by Swans’ supporters, having made countless blocks, clearances and tackles.

During one passage of play towards the end of the first half, Darling made and won to crucial back-to-back challenges in his own area, and was then able to quickly get back to his feet to block a shot from the edge of the box.

“Harry was outstanding, and it is impossible to question his commitment to the football club because that an heroic performance from him,” said Williams.

“He is fantastic at defending the goal, competing for everything with the opposition.

“But he also had plenty of brilliant actions in helping us to build-up to try and score. He was brilliant, he’s an excellent player.”

Williams was also pleased with Cyrus Christie’s showing at centre-back, with the experienced defender making his first start since returning for a second stint with the club.

“I thought Cyrus did really well. There were a few moments where you could see he has been away from the pitch, and then he did start to get some cramp, which is natural,” added the Swans boss.

“But I was very pleased with his overall performance.”
