Swans boss Martin praises matchwinner Matty Sorinola
Russell Martin praised the contribution of Matty Sorinola after the wing-back scored one goal and played a key role in the other in Swansea City’s 2-1 win over Blackpool.
Sorinola opening the scoring with his second goal of the season when he swept home a left-footed volley from Ryan Manning’s cross, to reward a thoroughly dominant first-half display.
Blackpool’s Charlie Patino saw red in the early stages of the second half, but the Seasiders levelled matters through Sonny Carey with 20 minutes to play.
But the hosts responded almost immediately as Sorinola’s excellent delivery was put into his own net by Callum Connolly.
The win saw the Swans moved back to within five points of the play-off places ahead of Saturday’s trip to Blackburn,
“I thought Matty was outstanding, he was really good,” said the Swansea head coach.
“I know him well, I played with him and coached him at MK, and he got a move from there on the back of some excellent performances.
“It has not been easy for him. The Championship can eat you up physically, fear can creep in, and he had not been as positive as I know he can be.
“But he has had a spring in his step the last couple of weeks, we have done a lot of work with the players and talking about the confidence to be themselves.
“I have been a bit unforgiving of him really, but it’s because I want the best for him.
“He has had a smile on his face training and I was delighted to see him do so well.
“He gives us a headache for Saturday, which is great.”
