Swans boss Martin hails defensive pairing
Russell Martin hailed the defensive duo of Ben Cabango and Nathan Wood after the pair helped Swansea City keep a fourth clean sheet in five games in their 1-0 victory over Huddersfield.
Despite being aged just 22 and 20 respectively, Cabango and Wood have enjoyed excellent seasons, and they were an assured presence in a dominant Swansea display against the Terriers.
And they stood up to a late aerial onslaught from the visitors as they looked to try and salvage a point in their battle against the drop.
And head coach Martin was full of praise for how his defence has performed during a run that has seen Swansea take 13 points from the last 15 available.
“Ben Cabango has been incredible, his mentality to defend has been brilliant,” said Martin.
“In training this week we put on a drill mainly for the forward, but he was throwing his body around making blocks with a desperation to stop anyone scoring.
“His desire to fight has been so good, and when you partner that with what he has done on the ball and his development there and it is amazing.
“We also had Joel Latibeaudiere and Harry Darling playing a bit out of position at times, Andy Fisher has showed courage to stay true to himself after a difficult time and Ryan Manning has been brilliant.
“But you can see how Ben and Woody have grown and learned this season, Harry as well.
“It means the future is really exciting for us, we need to try and keep enough of the group together so we can have some success together as a team and a club.”
