Swans a big hit 'Down Under'
22nd June
Swansea City have gone 'Down Under' to spread the Swans message and build goalkeeping links for the future.
Club coaches Andrew Sparkes (Head of Academy goalkeeping) and Leigh David (Academy goalkeeping coach) are currently in the middle of a two-week stay in Sydney, Australia, where they are holding special coaching sessions.
The courses, which involve two sessions a day, have attracted over 75 goalkeepers, while the duo (pictured above) have also given seminars to local academy coaches, goalkeepers and parents about the Swansea City philosophy and history of the club, in particular the remarkable rise over the last 10 years.
"It is great to see the turn out for the courses in Sydney,'' explained Sparkes. "We jumped at the opportunity to come over and share our experiences with the goalkeepers and coaches in Australia.
"We have been impressed with the standard throughout the age ranges and are looking to build on the links out here for the future.
"It just shows how far the club has come over the past few years that we are able to travel to the other side of the world to conduct these courses.''
