Swans Academy forges Cwmtawe link
15th September
Cwmtawe Community School in Pontardawe has been named the official partner school for Swans Academy.
For Academies to gain Category One status they must work with a partner school in the local area with the objective of providing a full-time education programme.
The programme caters for players in the under-15s and U16s squad who attend Cwmtawe every day until 1.15pm before undertaking a coaching curriculum at the Academy.
Swans Academy Manager Nigel Rees says the partnership is a very exciting opportunity and will help players continue to develop.
"The education process of any young footballer is an integral part of their development," he said.
"I am delighted that we are working with Cwmtawe Community School to deliver our education programme and give us the necessary platform to work towards category one status."
Cwmtawe Headteacher, Mr Lee Hitchings, said: "We are delighted to be working with the Swans and playing a part in the academy's development.
"Our priority is to ensure the players achieve at the highest level academically as well as on the pitch.
"The students involved in this link-up have settled really well and are already on track to achieve some outstanding grades."
Swans Academy players are also being educated at three other schools in the local area including Birchgrove, Ysgol Gyfun Bryn Tawe and Pentrehafod.
Rees continued: "Our link-up with Cwmtawe Community School does not mean the door is shut to young players at other schools.
"I want parents to know we are still prepared to work very closely with other primary and comprehensive schools in and around the Swansea area."
