Steve Cooper | We can only focus on what we can control, which is our performance
While external talk might be of other results and the permutations of games in hand, Steve Cooper has made clear Swansea City will only ever be focused on themselves and their own hunt for points.
The Swans face Nottingham Forest at the Liberty Stadium tonight having been given an unexpected weekend without a fixture as their game at Sheffield Wednesday was postponed owing to a frozen pitch.
It leaves the Swans in a position where victories in the games they now have in hand over the teams above them would be enough to send them top of the table.
But head coach Cooper did not spend his weekend worried about the results of the likes of Norwich and Brentford, preferring to instead focus on the task at hand in facing Chris Hughton’s Reds.
With so many games still remaining, the Welshman knows the focus can only be in one place, regardless of any what ifs or maybes.
“We don’t sit thinking about what happens in other games or to other clubs,” he said.
“There is more than enough to focus on when it comes to ourselves.
“We will never get caught up in whether other teams have drawn or lost, we will only ever be thinking about our own performances and our own results, because those are the things we can control.
“In the end, that is what gets you where you deserve to be.
“We have a tough game Wednesday, and there are still 19 games to go. So our chats are only about getting the best performance and three points in the next game.”
