Steve Cooper | Surridge and others pushing for starts
Steve Cooper says Sam Surridge is one of a number of Swansea City players who are giving him a selection headache ahead of Saturday’s Championship clash with Reading.
Surridge scored his fourth goal of the season in the midweek Carabao Cup defeat at Watford, but is still waiting for his first league start following his loan move from Bournemouth.
Borja Baston’s goalscoring form has meant the 21-year-old has had to be patient, but head coach Cooper made clear he is happy with the young forward’s efforts.
The likes of Declan John, Kristoffer Peterson and Nathan Dyer also put their hands up with their displays at Vicarage Road.
And Cooper admits he is not short of options when it comes to picking his starting line-up.
“I think most of the players who have not played as much as they would like are knocking on the door,” he said.
“There is no doubt about that and Sam is showing when we call upon him that he is ready, not just when he has started in the cup but when he has come as a sub too.
“We know he has not come here to be a sub, and we do not look at him as a sub. It’s just the team we are picking at the moment.
“We are very happy with the two strikers at the moment, and we have other players who can play there as well.
“So, is he doing enough? He is, and I am sure some more starts will not be that far away.”
