Steve Cooper hopeful over injured duo
Steve Cooper is hopeful of having Andre Ayew and Marc Guehi available for Wednesday’s clash with Sheffield Wednesday.
The forward and the defender missed the weekend win over Rotherham with hamstring injuries, but they could yet play a part against the Owls, although head coach Cooper was at pains to point out they will not be risked if they are not 100 per cent fit giving the relentless upcoming schedule.
“We’re hopeful over the lads who missed the game at the weekend,” he said.
“It is still a bit inconclusive, we’ve still got a couple of days but we’re working hard to get them ready.
“It’s too early to say yet, but we’re hopeful.
“We have a full day of rehab today and the physios are working hard as we also have players recovering from the game at the weekend.”
Viktor Gyokeres and Jordon Garrick will be absent again as they continue to self-isolate following positive tests for Covid-19, but they could be in contention to face Nottingham Forest at the weekend.
“They don’t have any symptoms, they’re safe and well while going through the isolation period,” added Cooper.
“The club have been excellent in putting procedures in place. I don’t think you can stop it completely, nobody’s immune.
“But we are certainly sticking to the processes and doing our best to limit it.”
Morgan Gibbs-White (foot) and George Byers (groin) also remain out.
