Steph Turner | I'm grateful for the faith shown in me

Steph Turner v Carmarthen Women

Steph Turner was delighted to repay the faith shown in her by netting the late winner as Swansea City Women secured three points against Cardiff Met Women.

The Swans took the lead after a frustrating goalles first half, Taite Trivett’s inviting cross seeing Celyn Garton turn the ball into her own net.

Cardiff Met levelled with nine minutes remaining as India Shanahan volleyed home from just inside the box.

But Turner would be the matchwinner against her former club, converting Trivett’s low delivery at the near post.

The win brought an end to a sequence of six games without a win for the Swans, and Turner hopes the victory can be a springboard for her side.

“I think we showed our quality, but the main thing is that we got three points,” said Turner.

“I’m really grateful to be shown that faith to come onto the pitch and to be able to reward that faith as well with the goal.

“Every time, in training and in games, I’m out there to prove a point and I think I’ve done that.

“We’ve had a really disappointing season, especially with the squad and staff we have, there's no getting away from that.

“We needed this result as a team, we needed some more goals because we haven’t scored as many compared to previous seasons.

“But everyone was so positive from the first whistle and that was crucial for the whole group.”
