Stacey John-Davis | Sticking to our principles was crucial
Stacey John-Davis felt Swansea City Women got their rewards for sticking to their principles in their 3-2 victory over Wrexham Women at the Racecourse.
John-Davis headed the Swans in front after 11 minutes, powering an effort past Liz Craven in the Wrexham net for her second goal of the season.
Ava Suckley levelled for the hosts before the break after Abbie Iddenden won the ball in the Swans half and gave her a simple finish.
Jess Williams restored the Swans lead after the break, heading home a corner from Katy Hosford, before Katie Sharp made it 3-1 with an own goal just 13 minutes later.
Rosie Hughes would net a late consolation for the hosts, but it wouldn’t be enough to prevent the Swans picking up three points in north Wales.
John-Davis was delighted to help her team get back to winning ways after a goalless draw against Barry Town United a week earlier, and praised the way they had committed to the gameplan.
“We’re all buzzing to get three points, personally to get a goal is great to help the team get the win,” said John-Davis
“I’ve enjoyed being back in the number nine position, but I’m just happy when I’m playing for the team and whatever I’m asked to do, I will get it done.
“We didn’t play poorly last week, we know our principles and are trying to grow our identity and we have stuck to that.
“We knew that if we stuck to that we would come away with the win, we did that and we executed what we wanted to do.
“The objectives and structure were no different, we were just more clinical in front of goal and we are really happy.”
The fixture had proven a difficult one for John-Davis previously, with the forward having suffered long-term injuries in both of her previous games against the north Wales side.
She admitted that had played on her mind heading into the game, and that made it all the more special to get through 90 minutes and find the net.
“It was really hard mentally to come into this game with my past record against Wrexham personally,” said John-Davis.
“But I’m happy to have gotten through 90 minutes and hopefully I can build on that for the next few games.”
