Stacey John-Davis praised a massive team performance after Swansea City Ladies claimed a 2-0 win against Cardiff Met Women in their first outing at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Swansea City Ladies' 2021-22 league top scorer opened her account for the new season in impressive style with a chipped effort which pinged off the inside of the far post and into the net.

A record-breaking crowd for a Welsh domestic Ladies fixture were in attendance and John-Davis realised a childhood dream by celebrating with the 1,400 fans.

“We’ve said it in the changing room, playing in front of a crowd like that is the sort of thing we dreamt of as little girls growing up,” she said.

“To play in the stadium is massive, but for the young girls and boys who turned up – that speaks volumes about where women’s football is at in Wales.

“It’s a bit of a dream come true to score. A few of us said before the game that we would celebrate with the crowd. It was definitely a finish not a cross, it was a strike at goal!”

Despite a stand-out performance from the forward – which earned her Sgorio’s player of the game award – John-Davis was quick to praise the team performance.

She also reiterated that the 2021-22 champions won’t get carried away with one game and are already focusing on the next opponents in their title defence.

“Goals and personal accolades are always fantastic but it was a massive team performance and we’ll all take that into next week,” added John-Davis.

“We knew what we set out to do in that game, what we could bring, what we had to bring and what we were up against in Cardiff Met.

“They are always a well-organised team so to start the season as we mean to go on with three points is big.

“It’s the start of the season, not the end and there’s a long way to go so it’s straight back into training with our feet back on the ground and we’ll go again next week.”
