Spirit the key for Oli
Oli McBurnie reckons Swansea City’s spirit carried them through at Brentford – and he hopes to see more of the same against Sheffield Wednesday.
The Swans ended their three-game losing streak with victory at Griffin Park last weekend.
While it seemed Graham Potter’s men might cruise home at one stage, the three points did not come easily at Griffin Park.
Having gone 3-0 up inside 27 minutes, the Swans were left clinging on at the end after Brentford fought back to make it 3-2.
McBurnie felt the Swans’ mentality was key to a timely success.
And the eight-goal Liberty top scorer says the Swans must be ready for another scrap when the Owls come to SA1 on Saturday (3pm).
“We showed our resilience and the spirit and the bond we have in this squad at Brentford,” McBurnie said.
“The gaffer came in after the game and said it’s a crazy game at times.
“We got to 3-0 and you might have thought we’d got it wrapped up, but clearly that wasn’t the case.
“They got one back before half-time and in the second half they gave it a real go, but we dug in there to hold out.
“The boys were buzzing to get a win on the board. Now we want to see if we can put a little run together.”
The Swans have been boosted by the Brentford success having lost to Derby, West Brom and Norwich in their three games prior to the trip to London.
They now take on a Wednesday side who are struggling to form as they look to close the five-point gap between them and the top six.
“It was vital to get the win last weekend,” McBurnie added.
“Performances are important but at times you just need to get points.
“We did that Brentford and we want more of those days.”
