John Toshack challenges Swansea City goalkeeper Tony Millington for the ball in an FA Cup tie at Anfield.

It was January 1971, and the Third Division Swans had made it to round four thanks to victories over Exeter, Telford and Rhyl.

But Roy Bentley's team finished up well beaten on Merseyside despite creating a number of opportunities as they were roared on by 8,000 travelling fans.

Toshack, who would become the Swans' player-manager seven years later, put Liverpool ahead early in the second half.

Ian St John then doubled the home side's lead before Chris Lawler sealed a 3-0 victory for Bill Shanky's Reds.
