Sammy Wynne | We needed to build on first-half pressure
Swansea City Women’s midfielder Sammy Wynne felt her side paid for being unable to make the most of a strong first-half display in their 1-0 defeat to Cardiff City Women
Molly Kehoe scored the decisive goal for the Bluebirds in the second half, handing the Swans their first home defeat of the season.
Wynne felt that her side executed their gameplan well in the opening 45 minutes, creating chances to break the deadlock, but needed to keep the momentum going after the interval.
“We needed to create a few more chances in the first half with the bit of dominance that we had,” said Wynne.
“I think we had the better of the first half, after a frantic first five minutes we settled into it really well and we kept the ball pretty well.
“We’d worked hard on our press in training, and I think it worked to a tee and we seemed to have them where we wanted.
“But we didn’t build on what we did in the first half, they came on stronger in the second half and it was disappointing we couldn’t carry our pressure on.
“There are still loads of important games this season, by the time we play Cardiff again we want to be within touching distance of that top spot.
“We need to focus now on Cwmbran in the cup and then a really big game in the stadium against Wrexham the week after.”
