Sammy Wynne | Playing in a derby always means that bit extra
Midfielder Sammy Wynne says it would be extra special for Swansea City Women to round off their season with victory in a south Wales derby this evening (5.10pm).
The Swans take on Cardiff City Women at the SDM Glass Stadium in Bridgend with the Genero Adran Trophy on the line.
Swansea - two-time winners of the competition - are seeking a first piece of silverware since 2022, while Cardiff - this season's leage champions - are out to win this trophy for the first time.
Wynne believes the hard work and togetherness of the Swansea squad has been key to reaching the final, and the lifelong Swans fan hopes it can help them finish the campaign on a high.
“We’re all really looking forward to this, a cup final is always a big occasion and it’s a great opportunity for us to end the season on a high,” said Wynne.
“We’ve put a lot of hard work in together as a group, we’ve stuck together really well and we need to use that to hopefully help us get a bit of silverware.
“Every game against Cardiff is a big one, it always means more against them. So, to then put a cup on the line in a game like that, it adds to the pressure. but it's something we have to embrace.
“We’ve played against them a lot this season and it’s gone both ways, we will take confidence from the last game against them (when Swansea won 2-0).
"That was an important win for us, we walked away with our heads held high and we’ll look to use that as a confidence boost because we want to win silverware for our club.
“When I joined last summer it was something I looked at, I’ve always dreamed of winning a trophy, it would be my first at senior level and it would be a really special moment."
