Sammy Wynne | I'm really happy I could help the team
Midfielder Sammy Wynne was delighted to be able to help her side progress to the quarter-finals of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup as she notched her first goal of the season in a 3-0 win over Carmarthen Town Women.
Wynne set up the opener in the second half as she slid a ball across to Emily Richards to fire home a left footed shot from distance.
The 22-year-old then found the back of the net herself nine minutes later, curling a shot past the goalkeeper and into the bottom right corner.
Jasmine Guymer would make it three just before full time, Wynne sliding the forward through on goal to tuck a shot home and seal progression in the cup.
Wynne was delighted to be able to contribute to her side's second-round victory and hailed their second-half patience as being crucial to victory.
“I’m really pleased with my contribution today,” said Wynne.
“The last few weeks I’ve been happy with how I’ve been playing, but I really wanted to get an assist or get on the scoresheet to feel like I’m doing that little bit more to help the team.
“I had a couple of chances and I thought it just wasn’t going to go in for me, the keeper made a couple of good saves, I probably scored the hardest one of the bunch.
“Our objective was to come here and get through to the next round and we achieved that.
“We took a little bit to get into the game, in the first half we were getting into positions where we should have been creating good chances but it wasn’t quite clicking for us.
“After half time, we moved the ball better, found each other better, and then it was much easier for us to create better opportunities.
“Sometimes it can be frustrating when you don’t get that early goal or you think that things aren’t coming off for you, but half time was good for us to come in and reset, 45 minutes is still a long time to get some goals so it was just about staying patient.
“It was good to keep finding those spaces and good when we can find each other in those gaps around the edge of the box and it’s hopefully something I can carry on doing.
“It still feels early in the season but these are the games that are really important, you can’t win trophies without going through these games, so to be in two quarter-finals sees us going in the right direction.”
