Sammy Wynne | Captaining Swansea City is a really proud moment
Midfielder Sammy Wynne was delighted to captain Swansea City Women to an 11-0 win in the Bute Energy Welsh Cup against Talycopa AFC Women, and praised the commitment of her teammates.
Wynne, a lifelong Swansea City supporter, took the armband as captain Katy Hosford dropped to the bench, and went on to provide three assists on the way to a commanding 11-0 win.
The midfielder was delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the side out and enjoyed the challenge.
“It was amazing to lead out the team,” said Wynne.
“It’s a really proud moment for me and has given me a boost in confidence so I’m really thankful for the support from the staff and the girls.
“I enjoyed the responsibility and we have so many good leaders in the changing room so it’s a great environment for me to try and learn from them and find my own way of how I’d lead a team.”
The win sees the Swans reach the second round of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup where they will travel to face Carmarthen Town Women.
Wynne was pleased with the performance of her side and praised the quality throughout the squad.
“It was a really good performance, we knew it wasn’t going to be simple with a difficult pitch and they were going to be really up for the game.
“But we knew that if we did what we are good at and stuck to our principles that we would come through the game, and we did that really well, we focused on ourselves and that paid off.
“It was nice to be on the pitch, it’s a really competitive squad with everyone working hard in training.
“A number of us in the team haven’t had too many minutes this season, but we were firing from the start and it’s testament to all the work the girls are doing in training.
“It will be another tough test in the next round, it’s one that we are going to have to be better in again and we need to take a step up week-on-week.”
