Russell Martin | We need pride and clarity in our performance
Russell Martin has urged Swansea City to play with pride and clarity as they look for a confidence-building result at Luton Town this afternoon (3pm).
The Swans head to Kenilworth Road on the back of a difficult run in the wake of the January transfer window.
They face a tough test against a Luton side who enter this round of fixtures occupying a place in the play-off places, but the Swans have a good recent record in Bedfordshire, having won three and drawn one from their last four visits.
The visitors will be viewed as underdogs but, with over 1,000 away fans having sold out the club’s allocation, head coach Martin wants a performance which will give everyone connected with Swansea City a real positive energy.
To do that, he believes his side need to match the clarity of purpose and belief which have been hallmarks of Luton’s own climb from non-league to the brink of Premier League promotion.
“We just need a result to build confidence, to make it easier for the players and I think we are capable of getting one,” said Martin.
“Whenever we have had our backs to the wall during our time here, the players have come out fighting and we have to do it again.
“We respect Rob Edwards and Luton. He deserved a chance back in the Championship after what happened at Watford.
“I briefly played with Rob at Norwich, and he is a really good guy.
“They have built on what Nathan (Jones) did there. Rob has made some tweaks, but they are still a team that are athletic, work hard and play to their strengths.
“They know what they are, and have pride and clarity in what they do. We need to show the same pride and clarity in what we do, and I am sure we will.”
