Russell Martin | We are showing the foundations are there to be built on
Russell Martin believes Swansea City are showing the foundations are in place for a bright future at the club after they continued their excellent run of form with an emphatic 3-0 win at Norwich City.
The Swans dominated their hosts, taking a two-goal lead through headers from Joel Latibeaudiere and Liam Cullen before the Canaries had Sam McCallum sent off.
Olivier Ntcham added the Swans third after the break to make it 19 points from the last 21 available for the visitors, who have also kept five clean sheets in that sequence.
Head coach Martin praised the character and courage his players have shown to come through a difficult period with a series of excellent performances, and he is excited about what could be achieved moving forward.
“To have the run we are on now – that’s six wins in seven with five clean sheets – after the period we had before that tells you everything about this group’s character,” he said.
“As a staff, we are having fun watching them. The lads are having fun playing and I am enjoying watching them.
“We have got to keep that going and I hope we have convinced people that we have really strong foundations to build on and a really exciting group of young players who can achieve something together over a period of time.
“When we came in we said it would take time because of the way we work and how we would go about things and try and build.
“I think you can see the effects of that work now because of the way the players have committed to it.
“I think the fans, the way they have backed this team over the last six or seven weeks in particular has been amazing, and so has the connection they have shared with the team.
“All of that puts you in a pretty good place for next season and now we have to get things moving forward because we are showing we can compete at this level.”
