Russell Martin | Let's raise the energy and intensity
Russell Martin has called on Swansea City to raise the energy and intensity levels as they look to complete a three-game week on a high with victory over Reading.
The Swans return to the Swansea.com Stadium following their dominant 2-0 win at Barnsley in midweek, a result that saw them climb to ninth in the Championship table.
They are unbeaten in their last seven games in SA1, but were frustrated not have claimed all three points against Blackpool last weekend, where head coach Martin was left to rue a flat second-half display that culminated in an equaliser for the Seasiders.
But there is no denying that the Swans are making strides in the right direction, and Martin wants to see them take the game to a Reading side who recently suffered a six-point deduction for breaching EFL regulation.
“It is really tough when you have had that (a points deduction), but it can create a form of siege mentality as you are seeing at Derby,” said the Swans boss.
“They have less points but it gives them something to fight against, and without the deduction they would not be far off our points tally.
“I think you have to take each game in isolation, they had a good performance against Sheffield United and have had an extra day of recovery.
“You have to take all that into account and they will pose a threat.
“But it’s about us, it’s about what we do. We are at home, we love being at home and we are looking to ease some of the frustration from last weekend.
“I was disappointed, the players were disappointed, and we certainly want to come with more energy and intensity this weekend
“Our home record has been great, the supporters are right behind it and enjoying it.
“It’s been brilliant, we want to carry it on.”
