Russell Martin hails "model professional" Jay Fulton
Russell Martin described Jay Fulton as a model professional after the midfielder’s superb winner against Reading, but admitted he had been shouting for the Scot not to shoot when he found the net with his crucial strike.
The 28-year-old found game time limited last season, but has been an integral figure in the Swans’ recent excellent run of form that has seen them take 19 points from the last 27 on offer.
Swansea have won six of their last eight after they came from two goals down to beat the Royals, with Fulton lashing home the winner from 30 yards on a dramatic night in SA1.
And head coach Russell Martin praised the way the former Falkirk man has responded to force his way back into the team.
“Jay scored a great goal, I was telling him not to shoot. I was laughing with Gilly [Matt Gill] about it when we celebrated,” said Martin with a smile.
“I shouted ‘no’ when he hit it. Jay has that in his locker though. I’m grateful to Jay for how he’s been since the start of this season, after the season he had last year.
“He’s a brilliant professional, a great man and a brilliant character.
“He’s turning into the player we thought he was before we came to the club. It was really difficult for him last season. I’m delighted for him.
“He has such respect from everyone at the club. The players, the young players especially and all the staff. Jay just goes about his business, he’s a brilliant professional.
“He has that in his locker though. He has real quality. He’s been immense for us and deserves everything."
