Russell Martin | Everyone at Swansea City sends their best wishes to John Toshack and his family
Russell Martin has sent his best wishes and those of Swansea City to former player-manager John Toshack and his family.
Outlets in Spain have reported that the 72-year-old, who famously led the Swans from the Fourth Division to the heights of the top-flight during a true golden era in the club’s history, was receiving hospital treatment following complications related to Covid-19.
Toshack also managed the likes of Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Sporting Lisbon, Deportivo La Coruna, Besiktas and Wales; notably blooding a generation of young talent in the latter role that would go on to help the national side reach two major tournaments.
He also represented Cardiff, Liverpool and Wales during his playing days; enjoying a trophy-laden spell at Anfield that yielded nine major honours.
“Everyone here sends their best wishes to John and his family,” said Swans boss Martin.
“We were shocked and saddened by the news, we have not had an update since but we hope for positive news.
“He is a legend at this club, and we wish him well and hope for positive news soon.”
