Rodon honoured to lead U23s
Joe Rodon is looking forward to taking on the leadership role with Swansea City Under-23s after being handed the captain’s armband.
The young Swans kick off their campaign in Premier League 2 Division 1 tonight against Liverpool at Landore (7pm).
The 19-year-old, who made 35 appearances in central defence for the U23s last season, says the challenge of top-flight development football is another chance for the players to prove themselves.
“It is an honour for me to take on the captain’s armband in our first season in Division 1,” said Rodon.
“It is a big step up for me, but I am looking forward to leading the team.
“Tonight is another chance for us to prove ourselves against some of the best young players in the country. Liverpool are a very big club with a great academy set up.
“We know they will bring a game to us, but we have to focus on ourselves and play to our best.
“I won’t need to say anything to the team ahead of tonight’s game. We all know what is expected of us, we all know our roles and our jobs.
“We are not taking anyone lightly in this league. We just need to continue to hard work and challenge to get the three points.”
