Robyn Pinder | We weren't at our best, but three points are the most important
Robyn Pinder praised her teammates’ resilience as she played a key role in a win over Pontypridd United Women which took Swansea City’s record to 12 wins in 13 games.
The striker has scored eight goals in all competitions since joining from Cardiff Met in the summer, and played a key role in forcing an early own goal in Sunday’s 2-1 victory before assisting Katy Hosford’s winning strike.
Ffion Simmonds got one back for the home side with around 20 minutes remaining, however the Swans’ experience told as they saw out the game.
But the Swansea number nine admitted that the performance hadn’t been to their usual standard, and the players had to show toughness and dig in to claim the three points.
“We can’t play perfect football every week, but to still get the result when we aren’t at our best is really pleasing for us,” said Pinder.
“They got their first point last week, they are a young team and not afraid to put in a tackle. We expected them to sit in deep so they shocked us a little bit in the second half when they started kicking the ball in behind.
“We want the games to keep coming thick and fast at the moment because the morale is really high, the performances are good and we want to keep this momentum heading into the semi-finals of the two cups.
“We want to keep this run up, we are doing well.”
On a personal note, Pinder was pleased to register another goal contribution in Sunday’s win and is enjoying her role in a front three with Stacey John-Davis and Hosford.
The latter recorded her 10th league goal of the campaign when she produced an audacious first-time finish from a narrow angle after meeting Pinder’s neat ball over the top.
“Hosford has been begging me to set her up for a good finish, and thankfully I put the ball in the right area and she's scored a great goal,” added Pinder.
“I knew her before I came in and we’ve always wanted to play together, now we’ve had a bit more consistency with the squad we are really starting to see the benefits, so with myself, Hosford and Stacey [John-Davis] it’s been really good.”
