Robyn Pinder | Our belief in each other was key

we always believed that we could score a last-minute goal.

Robyn Pinder felt the belief and togetherness of Swansea City Women was key to her netting a 97th-minute winner against The New Saints Women.

The Swans had put themselves ahead when Stacey John-Davis netted her first goal of the season, converting from close range after a good ball from Nieve Jenkins.

However, TNS equalised with just four minutes of regular time to play, Ella Hartley hitting a stunning strike into the top-right corner.

But Pinder would pop up with a crucial goal for the Swans, bringing down a great ball from Alicia Powe before sliding her shot underneath the goalkeeper with one of the last kicks of the match.

Pinder was delighted to be able to contribute to an important win for her side and felt it was a win they deserved for retaining their belief after being pegged back.

“I’m buzzing to be able to help the team out,” said Pinder.

“I think we deserved it overall and as you could see the scenes were really good out there, we always believed that we could score a last-minute goal.

“Morale is really high now and we need that momentum, it's about having that belief even when you have tough moments in games, and we showed that.

"I think just getting three points is amazing, but we are looking to get more consistent performances.

“I was really happy to come on and contribute, as soon as I saw they’d scored the equaliser I felt a bit of pressure, but I thought that as long as I got myself in the box, I knew that the chances were coming.

“Katy [Hosford] and Stacey [John-Davis] were putting in some really good balls so I was just trying to get in, but it came from [Alicia] Powe in the end.

“We’ve got some really big games coming up, a game against Cardiff, some really big cup games, so the momentum is going to help us get there and the character from the players has been great.

“What was positive about was that we created so many chances, Aberystwyth next week are going to be so difficult to break down, so playing against a team like TNS who are a bit similar in the way they approached it will be a really good confidence booster.”
