Second-half goals from Kristian Fletcher (2) and strikes from Ruben Davies and Liam Smith kicked off Swansea City’s Under-21s’ Premier League Cup campaign with a comfortable win over Hull City at Landore Training Ground.

The breakthrough came immediately after the restart, as DC United loanee, Fletcher, won and converted a spot-kick, before Davies added a second less than a minute later.

Fletcher bagged his second goal of the evening going into the final quarter of the match, slotting it into the far corner past the fingertips of Owen Foster, before Smith put the final icing on the cake when he made it 4-0 late on.

The Tigers and the Swans have already locked horns earlier this month at the Swansea.com Stadium in a match which also ended 4-0 to the Swans.

There were six changes to the side that faced Queens Park Rangers in midweek. Josh Carey, Richard Faakye, Joe Thomas - who got his first start of the season following an injury - Kian Jenkins, Davies and Smith came in for Dan Watts, Kai Ludvigsen, Maliq Cadogan, Cameron Congreve, Ben Lloyd and Kyrell Wilson, with the latter two dropping to the bench.

Nathan Tjoe-A-On made his third start for the age-grade side after previously featuring against The Tigers in the league and QPR, whilst Filip Lissah skippered the side once again.

Cards were dished out in the the early stages of the game, with Harry Jones seeing yellow for a foul on Henry Sandat, the Tigers' resulting free-kick from skipper Olivier Green just going over the crossbar.

Moments later, Filip Lissah’s outstretched leg blocked Sincere Hall’s effort as he advanced into the penalty area, and the Swans captain rose highest to head away the following corner.

Liam Smith

Patient build-up from Smith created room for Thomas’ pass to find Fletcher, whose volley flew well wide.

Swansea were on top, and Davies’ ball after a pacy run down the right nearly found its way to Smith but the low delivery flashed across the face of goal as Swansea pressed again.

The home side kept momentum in the Tigers’ half, but Hall embarked on a solo run from deep but was chased down by Tjoe-A-On and Smith before he could test Ben Hughes between the sticks.

The Swans were proving luckless as they went up the other end and Carey struck a ball straight to the hands of Foster to ensure the game remained goalless at the break.

The Swans got off to the perfect start in the second period. Within two minutes played, Fletcher won and converted a penalty after some fine work from substitute Zane Myers down the left.

Just 60 seconds later, Davies made sure to mark his first start of the season after returning from injury with a goal as he volleyed into the net from just inside the area.

Fletcher went close to claiming a second, but was denied by the woodwork after he hit a wonderful curled strike after he was left unmarked.

But his second goal of the evening soon came.

The 19-year-old beat his man down the left, cut inside on his right foot, firing it into the far corner to complete his brace and bag his third goal in Swans colours.

Substitutes Wilson and Ludvigsen brilliantly linked up to send the former through on goal, but Wilson’s effort deflected wide.

However, the Swans did make it four as they came forward immediately after. Smith - who fended off defenders down the right - curled the ball into the top corner in stoppage time.
